
Information Governance Officer

- Provide expert advice on data protection and information governance to senior leaders and staff across the organisation
- Maintain and review the Information Asset Register and data retention schedules
- Coordinate responses to FOI and subject access requests, ensuring legal compliance and quality assurance
- Investigate and report on data breaches, including escalation to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) where required
- Monitor and report on information governance compliance, compiling reports and tracking performance metrics
- Develop, review and implement IG-related policies, procedures, and guidance documents
- Support privacy impact assessments, data sharing agreements, and corporate complaints handling
- Deliver information governance training and induction sessions for staff, board members, and temporary workers
- Keep up to date with changes in legislation and best practice to drive continuous improvement
- Experience working in a data protection and/or information governance role, ideally within a public, regulatory or charitable setting
- Strong knowledge of UK GDPR, DPA 2018, and FOI legislation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with high attention to detail
- Ability to advise and influence stakeholders at all levels, including senior management
- Proven experience drafting policies, preparing reports, and handling sensitive information
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience of corporate complaints handling or regulatory compliance (desirable)
- A proactive, solutions-focused attitude and commitment to continuous improvement
