We have built on the success of the UK MOD Type-31 Frigate and have secured contracts for frigate export variants (AH140) with overseas customers. As a Principal Naval Architect, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is a highly prestigious position within our complex shipbuilding programme, developing designs through concept and early-stage design as well as supporting the bidding process.Day to day you'll:
  • Develop and lead technical solutions across outfitting: From concept to final vessel acceptance.
  • Lead and develop design teams through the design lifecycle: Ensure collaboration and effective project execution.
  • Develop innovative designs and processes: Implement efficient outfitting solutions and produce substantiation reports for tasks undertaken
  • Support team member growth: Foster a culture of learning and development.
  • Produce technical reports and documentation: Maintain high quality and adhere to standards.
  • Contribute to the wider engineering capability group: Participate in diverse projects for career growth.

We are happy to discuss this with you in more detail.Essential experience of the Principal Naval Architect
  • Experience in the naval/marine industry and experience of using a variety of naval architecture packages and extensive knowledge of design packages e.g., ship stability, 2D & 3D CAD.
Qualifications for the Principal Naval Architect:
  • Either Degree qualified but HND/HNC level qualification in an Engineering discipline with extensive practical design experience in outfitting and ship design will be considered
  • You will be a member of a relevant institution (e.g., RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and either hold Chartered engineer status or working towards Chartered engineering status and be considered a subject matter expert in your field.
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.Our Benefits
