Join us in the Vehicles Engineering team of the TfL Engineering & Asset Strategy Directorate and, as well as ensuring legacy assets are maintained safely and reliably, you'll deliver new systems and solutions.We currently have a requirement for a Senior Engineer with a specific focus on Bus Fleet Performance, tasked with providing specialist technical services to TfL's Bus Directorate. Based at our Palestra building in Southwark, the Senior Engineer is responsible for assuring continuous Bus fleet safety as well as identifying and ensuring reliability improvements are made for the benefit of its operators and customers.You will be a technical expert in Automotive Engineering, with strong Skills, Knowledge and Experience in vehicle testing, as well as the following:
  • A degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering or equivalent.
  • The ability to work towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status if not already held.
  • Significant knowledge of Vehicle Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
  • Significant knowledge of Vehicle Test Protocols and Vehicle Type Approval
  • Knowledge of relevant vehicle standards, UN-ECE, ISO etc
  • Experience of assessing safety risks and application of mitigations;
  • Experience of developing and mentoring other staff members;
  • Experience of providing professional engineering support to enhancement projects or maintenance organisations/processes;
  • Experience of reviewing and assessing the work of others in the delivery of initial designs or modifications (i.e. at a system or vehicle level);
  • Ability to represent the Company's interests with external parties e.g. railways, standards bodies, regulators
Your technical skills will be complemented by a solid commercial awareness of developments in Automotive products, processes and assurance best practice. You will have proven experience of implementing a risk-based engineering approach through the majority of the asset lifecycle, from initial specification, to design, installation, and testing, round to decommissioning, disposal or re-purposing.You will have experience in job management and prioritisation for your team, having the agility to respond to changing demands caused by short-term issues arising or longer-term strategy. You will use your subject matter expertise to provide guidance to your delivery team and internal customers. We are particularly interested in those that have an enthusiasm and depth of knowledge that can be used to mentor and coach the more inexperienced engineers in the team.It's also equally important you bring a passion for the TfL Vision and strategy too.
