What You'll DoAs Senior Medical Writer, you’ll lead project meetings with internal colleagues and external clients, steering discussions around complex data and ensuring timelines progress smoothly. You’ll work closely with RTI-HS editors and creative services to craft polished, high-impact deliverables that align with industry and client expectations. In addition to your publication expertise, you’ll help shape our team’s strategic direction and mentor others as part of your leadership contribution.Responsibilities
- Lead publication planning and development, collaborating with internal teams and external authors to deliver high-quality medical and scientific communications (e.g., manuscripts, abstracts, posters) for peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Interpret study results, literature, and supporting data to produce clear, impactful content for both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
- Manage publication workflows from concept to submission, including stakeholder coordination, compliance processes, strategic guidance, and quality control.
- Ensure all materials meet ethical and industry standards (e.g., ICMJE, GPP) and align with journal/conference requirements and client expectations.
- Oversee multiple concurrent timelines and priorities, delivering on time and within budget while fostering strong client relationships.
- Guide strategic discussions in meetings with internal and external teams, translating complex data into clear communication and actionable insight.
- Mentor and support junior writers, contributing to team development, consistent quality, and timely delivery.
- Identify challenges and generate innovative solutions, especially when facing ambiguous or unprecedented scenarios.
- Engage directly with clients through proposals, relationship building, and new publication opportunities.
- Help shape scientific communication strategies for new business, confidently presenting ideas during pitch meetings and across therapeutic areas.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Science, English, Communications, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in medical writing is required, ideally within a medical communications agency or the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. This should include at least 2 years in a senior or leadership role, preferably focused on outcomes research and real-world evidence generation
- Proven ability to mentor junior writers and guide them through complex writing and publishing tasks.
- Proven experience in managing multiple publication projects and collaborating with various stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of the publication process, including manuscript submission and industry guidelines.
- Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to transform complex scientific data into clear, compelling narratives.
- Project management expertise, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, reference management software (e.g., EndNote), and familiarity with publication management systems.
- In-depth knowledge of ICMJE, GPP3, and other publication standards.
- Ability to provide strategic insights to clients, helping them navigate complex publication landscapes.
- Familiarity with digital communications, including creating content for online platforms and managing digital communication strategies.
- Previous experience working on business development and proposal writing for publications.
