Contract: PermanentRole Overview:In this critical role, you will provide expert social work support and intervention during out-of-hours periods, responding to urgent safeguarding concerns and crisis situations involving children and families. You will lead a team of social workers, ensuring high standards of practice and effective decision-making in complex and high-pressure situations.This position is ideal for a confident and resilient social worker who is passionate about safeguarding vulnerable individuals and has extensive experience in emergency and crisis intervention.Key Responsibilities:
  • Crisis Intervention:
  • You will respond promptly to urgent referrals and safeguarding concerns, assessing risk and determining the appropriate course of action. You will provide immediate support and intervention to children and families in crisis, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Supervision and Leadership:
  • You will supervise and support a team of social workers, providing guidance and mentoring to ensure effective practice. You will lead team meetings and case discussions, promoting a culture of collaboration and reflective practice.
  • Decision-Making:
  • You will make critical decisions regarding child protection and safeguarding interventions, ensuring that actions taken are in the best interests of the child. You will apply local authority thresholds for intervention and ensure compliance with statutory regulations.
  • Multi-Agency Collaboration:
  • You will work closely with other agencies, including the police, health services, and emergency services, to coordinate responses to safeguarding incidents. You will build and maintain effective partnerships to ensure a collaborative approach to risk management.
  • Assessment and Documentation:
  • You will conduct thorough assessments of situations, documenting findings and actions taken in accordance with local authority policies and statutory requirements. You will prepare detailed reports for court proceedings and safeguarding meetings as necessary.
  • Support and Guidance for Families:
  • You will provide support and guidance to families in crisis, helping them navigate challenges and access appropriate services. You will empower families to engage in the process and ensure they are informed of their rights and options.
  • Training and Development:
  • You will participate in and contribute to training and development initiatives to enhance the skills and knowledge of the EDS team. You will stay informed about current best practices and legislative changes affecting social work.
  • Reflective Practice:
  • You will engage in regular supervision and reflective practice, identifying areas for personal and professional development. You will contribute to the continuous improvement of services within the Emergency Duty Service.
  • Emergency Response:
  • You will be available to respond to emergency situations as they arise, including providing advice and support to social workers on duty. You may be required to attend out-of-hours meetings or conferences as necessary.
Person Specification:Qualifications:
  • A recognised social work qualification (e.g., Degree or Master’s in Social Work, Diploma in Social Work)
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Post-qualifying award in child protection or emergency social work is desirable
