An exciting opportunity has become available for a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to be part of the Estate Operations & Maintenance Team on a prestigious private estate. The Estate worker will be part of a small team contributing to the beauty and upkeep of a 3500-acre estate and will be responsible for maintaining and caring for the grounds under the guidance of the Team Leader. During the months of February to September the focus will be to support the Shoot programme and during the months October through to January will be groundwork and preparing for the Shooting Season.The ideal candidate will have a passion for working outdoors with a strong work ethic. As Estate Workers, during the shoot season, your responsibilities will include the maintenance and cleaning of shoot vehicles, transporting equipment and supplies for the shoot team, and assisting with various tasks on shoot days such as setting up equipment, retrieving shot birds, moving supplies like shells, firewood, and charcoal, and providing general support to organisers and participants. You will also be required to drive guests during shoot days, always ensuring that safety protocols are followed.Additional responsibilities include a variety of landscaping, maintenance, and support duties across the estate. Working closely with the Team Leader, you will assist in planning and executing grounds maintenance tasks to ensure all work is completed on schedule. This includes mowing, hedge and verge cutting, fence and track repairs, footpath maintenance, and the general upkeep of the grounds. You will monitor and report any concerns related to the estate grounds, operate and maintain heavy machinery and equipment safely and efficiently, and support the implementation of landscaping projects by planting, cultivating, and maintaining hedges, trees, verges, and footpaths.You will be expected to regularly inspect all areas of the estate, including those not frequently seen, to ensure they are tidy and free from debris and weeds. High-traffic areas must be kept in pristine condition at all times. It is essential to respect the privacy of residents and guests, maintain effective communication with your Team Leader regarding issues or supply needs, and collaborate closely with other members of the estate and garden teams to ensure seamless operations.In addition, you will help manage grounds supplies and equipment, ensuring they are well-stocked and in good working order, and promptly report any maintenance or repair needs. Adhering to all health and safety regulations is a critical part of the role, which includes reading and following risk assessments and implementing safety protocols as directed by your Team Leader and Estate Director.Ultimately, the role is to help create and maintain a welcoming, well-kept environment for the estate’s owner, residents, team members, and visitors — regardless of weather conditions or operational challenges that may arise.Previous practical experience in landscape construction or woodland and estate management is preferred. Candidates should be capable of working both independently and within a team environment, demonstrating good communication skills and a professional demeanour at all times. Physical stamina is essential, as the role involves manual labour in a variety of weather conditions. Relevant machinery certifications are desirable, including those for chainsaw use (such as chainsaw maintenance and tree felling), tractor operation, multipurpose loader use, heavy plant machinery, and pesticide application. A valid UK driver’s licence is required.
