- Selecting and checking reinforcement bars, meshes, or wires against schedules/drawings.
- Cutting, bending, and arranging bars into the required configuration for hollowcore cages.
- Ensuring correct sizes, cover, and spacing before welding.
- Using spot welding equipment to tack reinforcement bars together to form cages.
- Ensuring welds are secure but not excessive (to avoid distortion of the cage).
- Adjusting welding settings for material thickness and type.
- Making sure cages meet design tolerances and match production drawings.
- Checking alignment, dimensions, and stability of cages before moving to the moulds.
- Repairing or re-welding any defective tack welds.
- Assisting with placing reinforcement cages into the hollowcore casting beds.
- Working with prestressing operatives to position cages correctly around strands.
- Securing cages to avoid movement during concreting.
- Using PPE (welding helmet, gloves, eye/ear protection, etc.).
- Working safely with welding equipment, ensuring good ventilation and avoiding fire risks.
- Keeping the work area tidy to prevent trip or burn hazards.
- Reporting any material defects or shortages.
- Logging welding activities if required by quality control.
- Coordinating with steel fixers, prestressing operatives, and casting teams.
