We are looking for an energetic, capable person with a positive 'can-do' outlook to join our effective team. Although the work is challenging the team spirit is excellent with all Officers working towards shared objectives.The main focus of the Service is to promote good attendance by assisting schools in reducing unauthorised absence and truancy. Education Welfare Officers act as the main liaison between families and schools, developing strategies to re-establish sound patterns of attendance and referring to specialist professionals where appropriate.Whist every effort is made to work with families Education Welfare Officers may be required to take matters of poor attendance to the Magistrates Court, officers are expected to be able to prepare evidence and may also be required to attend as a witness in court.The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a commitment to education, especially for vulnerable children and young people, have a background in education, social care, in the legal area or other relevant experience and possess exceptional interpersonal skills. A calm and organised approach to dealing with parents, senior school staff and other professionals is crucial to the post.
