Our client is looking for a Category Director to take ownership of their building materials category, driving commercial performance, operational excellence, and supplier collaboration across the business.About the Role
As a senior functional lead, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering the category strategy, working closely with the Commercial Director to ensure alignment with wider business goals. You will lead a team of Category Managers, manage supplier relationships, and oversee the execution of category initiatives that deliver measurable business value.Key Responsibilities
*Develop and execute category plans aligned with strategic business objectives.
*Lead day-to-day category operations including product range, pricing, promotions, and data accuracy.
*Coach and lead a team of Category Managers, building capability and driving performance.
*Negotiate and manage supplier contracts to optimise commercial terms and partnerships.
*Monitor category performance using data and market intelligence to drive decisions.
*Represent the category function at senior leadership and supplier meetings.
*Collaborate with Supply Chain, Procurement, Marketing, and Operations to deliver results.
*Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and efficiency in category processes.What We’re Looking For
*Strong experience in Category or Commercial Management, ideally in construction, building materials or related industry.
*Proven track record of delivering commercial growth in a multi-site, multi-channel environment.
*Confident team leader with experience coaching and developing high-performing teams.
*Commercially aware, data-driven decision maker with excellent analytical skills.
*Strong communicator with the ability to influence at senior levels.
*Organised and resilient, able to manage multiple priorities.
*Proficient in Microsoft Office and business systems.
