The roleAre you an experienced and capable safety professional, or someone with comparable experience who would relish the opportunity to influence health and safety culture whilst at the same time supporting and enabling cutting edge research? If you are, we would love to hear from you.We need a Safety Officer to support the Faculty of Science and Engineering. You will provide essential specialist safety support, interpret legislation and provide working solutions to ensure compliance and help to maintain a safe working environment for staff, students, visitors and contractors. Using a sound understanding of both safety and laboratory and/or workshop activities, you will work to implement policy and provide in person support directly within office, laboratory and workshop spaces. The role will involve working in partnership with both Faculty and School staff as well as Safety and Health service.What will you be doing?
  • Provide advice, guidance and operational support.
  • Write and maintain safety policies, procedures and protocols in accordance with legislation and University policy.
  • Create and maintain accurate safety records for auditing purposes and prepare safety reports.
  • Operate, service, maintain and calibrate specialist safety equipment.
  • Analyse safety issues to find short and long-term solutions and investigate incidents.
  • Prepare generic risk assessments and method statements/standard operating procedures (SOPs), in line with specialist knowledge.
  • Training others in safety processes and procedures eg risk assessment training and implementation.
