
Social Worker - Fostering Team

- Arrange and attend meetings related to the Foster Carer including Standards of Care Meetings.
- Remain child focussed at all times.
- Identify standards of care issues and report these to your management team.
- Attend supervision with line manager regularly keeping that person-informed of progress in assessments and any difficulties.
- Coordinate efforts to secure foster families for named children.
- Provide information of statistics and other performance indicators.
- Transport equipment to carers, as necessary.
- Maintain and use records and data, including electronic systems.
- Keep up to date with policies, legislation and procedures and ensure that they are followed.
- Write reports and correspondence.
- Receive referrals from the public, colleagues and agencies.
- Develop a relationship of trust and understanding with service users and colleagues.
- Maintain good standards of childcare practice and implement childcare legislation.
- Participate in Children and Families’ Service and Team duty systems.
- Assess capabilities, attitude and suitability of prospective Foster Carers, Connected Carers, and Special Guardians within the recommended timescales.
- Ensure prospective foster carers attend a medical and liaise with medical personnel about their medical suitability to act as foster carers/Special Guardians.
- Follow upon agency decisions in relation to fostering and special guardians.
- Attend LAC reviews for the children in placement with allocated Foster Carers.
- Liaise with and advise colleagues, as necessary in preparing children and young people for foster placements.
- Ensure that allocated Foster Carers paperwork is prepared for the Fostering Panel within every 3 years on earlier where there has been a standard of care or safeguarding concern or the fostering panel had requested this.
- Monitor progress of placements.
- Develop own specialist skills.
- Develop inter-agency working.
- Be smart and presentable at all times in compliance with the current dress code.
- Any other duties appropriate to this area of work and consistent with the level of the post, as may from time to time be required.
- A social Work Qualification or equivalent.
- Understanding of relevant legislation.
- Registered or eligible for registration.
