
Consultant Stroke Physician

- The overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement;
- provision with Consultant colleagues of a service, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department;
- cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences;
- to participate in service development and business planning;
- professional supervision and management of junior medical staff;
- responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing toundergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally;
- participating in medical audit, the Trust's Clinical Governance processes and in CPD;
- managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate;

- Relocation budget of up to £5,000
- Named Mentor for the first year of employment to facilitate settling in to the new working environment
- Additional allocation of SPA time within the job plan for the first 2 years in order to allow time for service development (typically 7.5:2.5 split between DCC and SPA time)

- Experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the job plan
- Understanding of all aspects of Stroke Medicine
- Five years supervised training in an appropriate SpR equivalent training programme
- Stroke Fellowship
- Demonstrable ability as a teacher with evidence of training for the role
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview
