Our client, an established entity in the defence and security sector, is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their innovative team.Key skills required for this roleMechanical Engineer , solidworks, 3D CAD, Mech engImportantMust be eligibility for Security Clearance at SC level are required.Job descriptionThis permanent position involves working on cutting-edge products that service the surveillance and defence industries, driving innovation at the core of their mission.Key Responsibilities:
  • Innovative design skills in electro-mechanical mechanisms
  • Technical lead within a project design team to produce quality design solutions
  • Creation of designs in 3D CAD using SolidWorks software
  • Collaborate to perform classical engineering analysis on designs, including stress, fatigue, and vibration
  • Perform lab testing for verification and conformance of design outputs
  • Develop engineering reports to support new product designs and failure investigations
  • Coordinate with wider engineering teams to integrate electronic, control, and drive systems
  • Support production, test, and field engineering teams, as well as sales teams with bids and quotations
Job Requirements:
  • Degree in a relevant discipline
  • Flair for innovation, concept designs, and a passion for mechanical engineering
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanisms and structures
  • Experience in leading the design of systems from concept to production
  • Ability to analyse loads on gear drives, bearings, and motors
  • Understanding of machining, casting, fabrication, and moulding techniques
  • Experience in using a 3D CAD system
  • Strong understanding of technical aspects related to engineering activities
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience in designing for harsh environments
  • Experience in the defence industry or related sectors
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD system
  • Experience in coaching and talent development within a team
  • Previous experience in a similar senior-level position
Person Specification:
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work well both in a team and autonomously
  • Proficient in performing engineering calculations
