Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading global provider of environmental solutions to recruit a Outage Safety Manager on a 6-7 month contract for its South West site.The Safety Manager role comes with a competitive rate per day.
Key skills
  • Fulfil the statutory duties of Principal Contractor under CDM 2015 for an operational EfW project.
  • Develop and manage the Construction Phase Plan and ensure it is regularly reviewed and updated.
  • Coordinate with the client, designers, subcontractors, and other duty holders to maintain a safe and compliant site environment.
  • Manage all aspects of site safety, including inductions, permits to work, toolbox talks, and RAMS reviews.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards, especially where high-risk operations (e.g., confined space, hot works, HV electrical systems) are involved.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits, reporting findings and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure that temporary works, heavy lifting, and specialist installations are properly planned and supervised.
  • Maintain all statutory documentation and provide regular reports to the client and project leadership.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrable experience in CDM/Principal Contractor roles, ideally within Energy from Waste, heavy industrial, or power generation sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of CDM 2015 and relevant UK construction and HSE regulations.
  • Relevant health and safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Construction Certificate, SMSTS, Temporary Works Coordinator, etc.).
  • Strong communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams on complex, high-risk projects.
