- Manage the FTF operations to maximise the operational performance, efficiency and value, including defining, prioritising, and implementing the site operational plan in line with divisional and UKAEA strategy, setting operational KPIs and ensuring they are delivered upon.
- Plan, monitor, and report the FTF annual budgets, with regular reviews and updates as required throughout the year.
- Manage and set operational, maintenance, and technical priorities, and the recruitment and assignment of resources to meet business, project and safety needs.
- Define investment requirements for office, building and plant at the FTF, presenting a robust business case arising from operational shortcomings, new legal/compliance requirements, and emerging science programme, including existing and new facilities.
- Effective and timely management of staff, including, but not limited to: setting resource allocation and recruitment requirements, knowledge transfer, supporting welfare and EDI, setting expectations (inc. behavioural), onboarding and probation, setting SMART objectives, performance management, absence management, addressing concerns (e.g. disciplinaries, grievances, etc.), workforce planning, building capability in line with business strategy, supporting learning, skills and professional development, and coaching, and offboarding.
- Ensure suitably qualified and experienced staff are in place to meet both current and future organisational needs as per UKAEA standards.
- Manage compliance by staff and contractors, with respect to CDM, ISO standards, and EHSQ policy, for work undertaken in the FTF, ensuring technical oversight and a high-level of quality control.
- Create and drive the FTF behavioural safety culture and performance by example, regular Safety Walkabouts, toolbox talks, regular engagement with all levels of worker from technician to Executive.
- Manage the asset database for the Plant and Operational infrastructure of the FTF (liaising with B&FM), driving regular and ad hoc maintenance activity.
- Deliver assigned commitments of safety, quality, cost and schedule - ensuring work is undertaken safely, efficiently and effectively to ensure the programme of operations is delivered to the relevant corporate objectives.
- Interface regularly with all key stakeholder groups across UKAEA and the site 'Authority to Operate holder’ (ATOh) to ensure compliance with the sites Safety Case.
- Contribute regularly, as a core member of the FTF Management Team, on integration of project activity with the FTF.
- Accountable for establishing a continuous improvement culture, from operations strategy to daily task level.
- Accept delegated accountability for the safety of the facility, as required by the Fusion Technology: Head of operations.
- Ensure the FTF site’s compliance with UKAEA and UK regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Proactively promote the integration of the FTF with other entities within UKAEA and promote collaborative working practices between sites.
- Work in accordance with UKAEA policy and undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties requested by your manager.
- Host external stakeholders and visitors as required, demonstrating passion for UKAEAs mission.
- Attend meetings and give presentations both internally and externally
- Champion raising the profile of the FTF with customers and key stakeholders.
- Deliver ‘all staff town hall meeting’
- Chair formal meetings as required.
- Act as delegate for the Head of Operations.
- Experience in Operations and Engineering management, with demonstratable ability to provide clear direction, leadership, and technical expertise.
- Qualified to degree level or similar in Occupational Safety and Health or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience leading HS&E across complex major M&E projects containing high hazard plant.
- Prior experience of working in a highly regulated environment such as construction, installation, commissioning, and operations.
- NEBOSH National General Certificate (or working towards)
- In depth knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, ISO14001:2015, ISO45001: 2018
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership of diverse installation with a diverse team
- Strong communication skills – clear and articulate verbal and written ability including report writing.
- Ability to use initiative and creativity to resolve queries or issues and improvements, in a proactive manner and apply appropriate attention to detail.
- Ability to constructively interact with a variety of stakeholders at all levels of the business and lead diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Demonstrably proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
