We are seeking a Temporary Site Agent to work predominantly within Oxfordshire.
The key requirements of this role are:
  • To ensure the effective management of time, cost, and quality aspects of specific projects, managing all day-to-day activities on a range of infrastructure-related projects.
  • To ensure the highest possible Environment, Health, and Safety standards are employed across all projects, adhering to minimum standards and actively supporting a strong safety culture.
  • To manage client expectations and ensure excellent communication with all project stakeholders.
The Site Agent will report to the Scheme Works Manager and will be responsible for the planning and supervision of all in-house and subcontract resources.Key Accountabilities
  • Manage and supervise schemes on-site to ensure that work is delivered safely, on time, to budget, and in accordance with HSEQ standards.
  • Efficient organisation of labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor resources.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders (client officers, designers, network management team, road space team, community groups, parish councils, etc.) to support scheme delivery.
  • Ensure Construction Phase Plans, method statements, and safe systems of work (RAMS) are in place before work commences and are updated throughout.
  • Ensure all site personnel (direct and subcontract) are competent and trained to safely undertake site operations.
  • Review subcontractors’ RAMS, raise queries where required, and collaborate to ensure safe working practices.
  • Deliver Toolbox Talks and briefings, including those led by the supply chain.
  • Work closely with the Commercial team and PM, taking responsibility for the commercial performance of projects, particularly in early identification of changes.
  • Maintain accurate records, including site diaries, works activity logs, ITPs, resource allocations, and as-built information.
  • Support the Works Manager/Assistant Works Manager in developing construction programmes, phasing plans, and project-specific supplements.
  • Develop relationships with Key Supply Chain partners.
  • Assist with Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and buildability considerations, including Traffic Management.
  • Promote Value Engineering with designers, supply chain, and Commercial teams to ensure best value for the client.
  • Ensure compliance with company processes, procedures, reporting, and performance requirements.
  • Conduct regular EHS site audits and encourage reporting of Near Misses and Positive Interventions.
  • Support innovation by encouraging ideas from the supply chain and contributing own suggestions.
Working EnvironmentThis role is both office and site-based and requires flexibility around working patterns to meet client requirements and project demands.
  • The role is based at Drayton Highways Depot with regular attendance at sites across Oxfordshire.
  • Occasional travel to head office may be required.
  • Standard hours are 07:30 – 16:30, Monday to Friday, but overtime, extended hours, and night working may be required.
  • Overtime will be compensated at the agreed rate.
  • The role involves working in safety-critical environments; therefore, a safety management qualification is essential.
Person SpecificationQualifications:
  • IOSH / SMSTS / SSSTS
  • CSCS (Gold or Black card)
  • Degree qualified (desirable)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • NRSWA Supervisors Street Works Qualification (desirable)
  • Lantra 12D Trained (desirable)
  • First Aid
  • Computer literate
Knowledge & Experience:
  • Strong background in highway maintenance & management
  • Experience in surfacing operations and materials (desirable)
  • Knowledge of bituminous products (desirable)
  • Understanding of buildability and ability to propose design solutions (e.g., TM requirements)
  • Ability to maintain & update construction programmes
  • Leadership, management, and supervision of subcontractors and staff
  • Commercial awareness and ability to monitor costs within agreed budgets
  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Innovative mindset and ability to identify better ways of working
