An exciting opportunity has arisen for General Practice Assistants to join our new PCN Complex Wound Service. Working as part of a specialist team, you will provide high-quality wound care to patients across North Shropshire. This role is ideal for GPAs looking to develop specialist skills in wound management whilst working in a supportive, multi-disciplinary environment.Main duties of the jobClinical Care:
  • Perform wound dressings and basic wound care following agreed protocols
  • Assist with wound assessments, taking measurements and photographs
  • Apply compression bandaging and remove sutures/clips
  • Maintain accurate patient records on EMIS system
Patient Support:
  • Welcome patients and ensure their comfort during procedures
  • Provide basic wound care advice and education
  • Build therapeutic relationships with regular wound care patients
  • Support patient dignity and mobility as required
Administrative Tasks:
  • Book follow-up appointments and coordinate patient recalls
  • Maintain clinic rooms and ensure equipment cleanliness
  • Order and manage wound care stock
  • Input data for service monitoring and audits
Team Collaboration:
  • Work with nurses and healthcare assistants in the specialist wound care team
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions
  • Cover colleague absences and mentor new team members
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives
Working Pattern:The role requires flexibility to cover enhanced hours on a rota basis:
  • Monday-Friday day shifts with some 6:30pm-8:30pm sessions
  • Saturday mornings 8:00am-1:00pm (1 in 4)

PERSON SPECIFICATIONEssential
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year experience in healthcare setting
  • Basic wound care experience
  • Good IT skills including experience with clinical systems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Flexible approach to working hours
  • Full UK driving licence and access to vehicle

  • EMIS clinical system experience
  • Phlebotomy and ECG competencies
  • Previous experience in primary care
  • Wound care training or certification
