Who are you?As an AIT Engineer, you will have knowledge and experience of producing test procedures for subsystem and system level tests and to carry out the various tests, familiar with the use of various test equipment and be educated to at least Level 6 qualification level (bachelor's degree, apprenticeship degree, NVQ level 6 or similar) in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline;Experience in some of the following areas is required:
  • Systems Engineering on a small satellite programme, preferably across the full project lifecycle;
  • Technical delivery of complex systems, software and/or electronic hardware;
  • Spacecraft AIT and/or operations;
  • Delivery of space technology and/or space mission studies or R&D projects;
  • Technical pre-sales support during bid activity;
  • Working in and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Interfacing to external clients;
  • Reporting project progress to internal stakeholders;
  • Working with suppliers;
  • Following processes;
  • Knowledge of Space Standards (i.e. ECSS);
  • Knowledge of UK Space Industry.
Skills:
  • Proficient in use of appropriate technical modelling tools (for example MatLab; STK and/or others such as CAD software packages);
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project);
  • Proficient in general programming, e.g. Python, Java, C/C++
  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal;
What will you be doing here?This is an exciting role which will suit an enthusiastic, self-starting individual who is happy to work on a range of activities to support the testing of spacecraft and spacecraft equipment. The successful individual will enjoy working as part of a team, will be keen to learn a variety of skills and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. It will require someone who takes pride in their work, maintains a high level of professionalism and is capable of problem-solving and seeing ideas through to conclusion.While the primary responsibilities of the role lie in spacecraft testing, the role will involve elements of design work and require some bid support and other reasonable responsibilities as required by the business. You will be actively encouraged to maintain a current interest in space industry developments and will be encouraged to identify business/technology promotion opportunities.Responsibilities will include:
  • Working as part of project teams to support mission/service delivery;
  • Producing test and verification plans for the various stages of development;
  • Planning and performing functional, electrical, mechanical and environmental tests at subsystem and spacecraft level;
  • Collaboration with project managers to provide inputs to schedules; risk management plans; budget management and other project artefacts as required;
  • Supporting spacecraft operations.
  • Supporting the department in all operational activities involved with running the In-Space laboratory, clean room and build/test areas in accordance with the In-Space quality system;
  • Acceptance of spacecraft hardware (platform and payload);
  • Test system assembly;
  • Subsystem and full spacecraft verification;
  • Managing the availability of test equipment (MGSE/EGSE) between different projects;
