It is actively engaged in the engineering education research community and in using that evidence-based research to deliver innovative and high-quality student experiences at UCL and for external partners through collaborative consultancy projects.Engineering Foundation YearThe Centre for Engineering Education within the Faculty of Engineering Sciences has launched a new course which reimagines the route to engineering study. The Engineering Foundation Year, taught at UCL East, has a central aim of widening opportunities for students from under-represented educational backgrounds. Upon successful completion of the foundation year, students will go on to study one of a number of engineering undergraduate programmes at UCL.Through the Engineering Foundation Year (EFY), a one-year pre-undergraduate course, we have curated a sector-leading educational offering of bespoke support for students without traditional qualifications to enable them to apply and thrive at UCL Engineering, from pre-application to graduation.Integrated Engineering Programme (IEP)is recognised within and outside of UCL for innovation and thought leadership in engineering education. The award-winning Integrated Engineering Programme (IEP) at UCL is a radical model for reimagining undergraduate engineering education.About the roleThis role is a fixed term for 12months in the first instanceThe postholder will be part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team committed to enhancing the student experience and fostering a positive, supportive learning environment that prepares students for professional success in engineering. They will sit within UCL Engineering’s Centre for Engineering Education and will work with colleagues across the faculty to support the continuous development and delivery of the Centre’s cross faculty curricula through the IEP and EFY.Furthermore, the postholder will be expected to provide inclusive and accessible support across core writing skills required in academic and reflective writing, critical reading and analysis, note taking, developing technical argument or writing impact statements.The postholder will work between both sites (Bloomsbury and Stratford).About youThe successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:
  • Postgraduate Qualification (MSc/PhD) in a relevant field (e.g. English, Creative Writing, Applied Linguistics, Education, Science Communication, or a related discipline) and / or experience.
  • Understanding of the specific challenges of academic and creative writing in STEM/engineering disciplines.
  • Proven experience of implementing innovative student-centred teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to design and adapt teaching to suit diverse learners, including international students and those with different levels of writing confidence.
  • Experience working with students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
