1. The role of the Consultant Social Worker is that of a professional Social Work Practitioner, with the ability to authorize and give case direction in regard to the overall delivery of Children's Statutory services within Stoke City Council.
2. The role provides professional expertise at a number of levels, including complex areas of direct service delivery and is seen as part of the management team providing assistance to CHAD Team Managers.Key Duties / Responsibilities:
Strategic Management:
- Listen, discuss, and negotiate with partners to ensure the childs needs are met, making safe decisions at the earliest opportunity.
- Chair Strategy Discussions, attend meetings with internal and external partners to ensure professional agreement and the right outcome for the child and their family.
- Take on or develop a specialist role in specific areas of practice for the Team or Operational Division.
- Ensure practice is compliant with relevant legislation, national and local policies, procedures, and guidance.
- Lead on behalf of the children's directorate to ensure teams understand any issues arising from reviews/audits to improve practice and outcomes for children.
- Actively mentor and provide professional guidance and development to support Newly Qualified (NQSW) and Assessed and Supported Year of Employment (ASYE) Social Workers.
- Conduct case audits on individual social workers case files and participate in safeguarding and other types of audits.
Knowledge and Qualifications:
- Diploma in Social Work / Certificate of Qualification in Social Work
- Post-qualifying Award/ Practice Educator/ Further Evidence on continuous professional development
- Registered with Social Work England
- Comprehensive knowledge of all relevant statutory legislation, policy, and procedures in regard to the delivery of Childrens Social Work and support.
- Knowledge of permanency and planning as set out in 'Working Together 2018'.
- Knowledge of Child Protection procedures as set out in 'Working Together 2018'.
- Knowledge of Early Help & Protection.
- Knowledge of Child Sexual abuse.
- Substantial post-qualifying experience as a Qualified Social Worker.
- Experience of delivering complex assessment and plans in regard to Child In Need, Child Protection, and those in Care.
- Experience of delivering complex court proceedings in a variety of court settings.
- Experience of working with partner agencies and families in delivering a holistic, effective intervention to children and families.
