What you'll doLocation: Remote working with some travel to Bridgwater, Somerset and Northampton. Therefore you can be based anywhere in the UK providing you can easily commute to our hub locations at least once a month.Are you a highly skilled data insights specialist with a passion for helping drive business change through incredible insights? In this high impact role, you will be collaborating widely with stakeholders and senior leaders across the business to help us disrupt the market and expedite our ambitious plans.Role Purpose:This is a pivotal, hands-on leadership role at the very heart of major insights and strategic decision-making. You will lead the Business Analytics Hub, working directly with key leaders across the entire organisation (including Commercial, Retail, CRM, Digital & Supply Chain) to provide insights, uncover hidden needs, and translate them into actionable strategies. Your mission is to elevate the Business Analytics hub to a cutting edge standard.You will directly manage two analytics engineers and oversee the central analytics for Toolstation, collaborating closely with departmental analytics teams. This involves enabling business value through robust, reusable data products, providing excellent stakeholder management, and understanding business needs. You will translate these needs into high-quality data models and self-serve solutions, and oversee data consistency, tool usage, and impactful insights across the business. This strategic, product-oriented role is perfect for someone passionate about scalable analytics, data modelling, and cross-functional collaboration.Key Responsibilities:Own and develop our transformation layer and business-facing semantic models to support reporting and self-serve analytics.Lead, mentor, and support two analytics engineers, fostering a strong team culture and focus on delivery.Act as the central liaison between the data team and wider business units, helping translate needs into scalable data products.Collaborate with the central Travis Perkins data engineering team (managing core infrastructure: BigQuery, GCS) and our third-party Airflow partner to coordinate data pipeline development and maintenance.Drive consistent naming conventions, data definitions, and documentation to support data governance and discoverability.Contribute to and influence our data roadmap, ensuring alignment with business priorities.Data Owner and Continuous Improvement: Responsible for the quality of all data used by the Business Analytics team, requiring influence on key functions (including IT) to ensure source data quality. Constantly challenge the status quo and propose alternative solutions to drive efficiency and simplicity, focusing time on data analysis, not data production.What you'll bringStrong SQL proficiency with experience building reliable, reusable models in a modern cloud data warehouse (ideally BigQuery).Proficiency with Dataform or similar (dbt) for modular, tested, and documented data modelling.Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow).Experience working with modern data stacks, including Git version control and CI/CD principles.Comfortable analysing and validating large datasets, with a high attention to detail and data quality.Experience with BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Looker, Tableau) and supporting self-serve environments through well-modelled datasets.Exceptional communication skills and proven experience in effective stakeholder management.Ability to work as the data lead in cross-functional teams and influence project outcomes.Passion for building scalable, well-documented, and governed data products.Comfortable working in a hub-and-spoke model, acting as the translator and delivery lead for business requirements.4+ years' experience in data/analytics roles, with 1–2 years focused on analytics engineering or data product ownership.Familiarity with GCP/BigQuery, Dataform, and tools like Jira and GitHub preferred.Commercial business background – experience working with a multi-channel retailer is desirable but not essential.Behaviours:Analytical: Develops a conceptual understanding of information, noticing when data is wrong or incomplete.Leading: Provides excellent leadership, motivating and developing others, and conveying organisational goals and values.Change/Continuous Improvement: Strives to improve by challenging existing thinking, identifying innovative alternatives, and driving change.Customer Focus: Proactively seeks customer feedback, manages expectations, and develops solutions.Teamwork and Collaboration: Recognises the importance of cross-business collaboration and gets things done cross-functionally.Planning and Organising: Understands priorities, plans effectively, monitors progress, and develops contingencies.Drive and Motivation: Focuses on results, takes ownership, and gets the job done.Decision-making: Considers available information, identifies options, and makes timely, well-reasoned decisions.Problem-solving: Anticipates problems and their impact, weighs alternatives, and arrives at reasonable decisions.What you'll getToolstation.
