School Crossing Patrols provide an important and invaluable road safety service, helping young children cross busy roads on their way to and from school.Applicants must be reliable, punctual, and able to work unsupervised. A Mobile School Crossing Patrol must have the means of travelling to any site within Derby City. You will be provided with a uniform, safety equipment and full training.You will only need to work during school term time. The hours cover the beginning and end of the school day, approximately 10 hours a week. A car allowance will also be provided.If you are interested in becoming a Mobile School Crossing Patrol and would like further information, please ring the School Crossing Patrol Officer on (01332) 641769 or emailPurpose of jobTo ensure control of and safe passage of pedestrians, including children, across the road at designated locations.Physical Requirements
  • To be physically able to move onto and off the road.
  • To be able to operate in all weather conditions.
  • To be physically fit and able to deal with emergency traffic situations as they relate to the crossing of pedestrians and themselves.
  • Be able to raise both arms to shoulder height repeatedly.
  • To be physically and mentally able to judge and foresee hazardous situations as they relate to traffic.
  • Be able to look and see hazardous traffic situations in all directions.
  • Be able to hear potential hazardous traffic situations that may be out of their immediate vision.
  • To be able to raise and hold an SCP sign repeatedly over an hour minute period and in all weathers.
Working Conditions
  • Working alone
  • Required to stand throughout duty period (normally less than one hour)
  • Exposure to all weather conditions
  • Exposure to traffic fumes
