Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Building ServicesSalary: £65,000 - £70,000 a yearLocation: Manchester (Hybrid 3 days in office)Role Overview:As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, specialising in heat pump projects, you'll take on a managerial role within our dynamic team. Working closely with clients and the internal design team, you'll lead the design and costing of heating systems. Your responsibilities will include technical site surveys, detailed designs, equipment specifications, and comprehensive budget estimation. This position is crucial in delivering high-quality work and requires a professional attitude with a focus on future business development. The successful candidate will foster an environment that encourages employee development, good relations, teamwork, and adherence to quality standards.Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support the renewables/mechanical team, overseeing site assessments, and design phases, and supporting successful project delivery.
  • Manage and mentor engineers, providing technical support and training to ensure compliance with client deadlines and professional standards.
  • Attend client sites for comprehensive surveys, calculations, and designs, ensuring fully compliant installations.
  • Focus on the design of turnkey renewable heating solutions for large-scale commercial projects.
  • Provide technical support and oversight during the tender stage to ensure project feasibility and adherence to design criteria.
  • Collaborate with engineers and subcontractors to maintain technical excellence.
  • Conduct quality inspections post-project completion to ensure compliance and optimal outcomes.
  • Ensure that all designs and bids are delivered on time, within budget, and following client requirements and industry standards.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in designing commercial HVAC systems.
  • Significant experience in renewable heating is advantageous.
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
  • Chartered Heating Engineer or on the pathway to chartered status.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, IES, and relevant MEP design software.
  • Strong project management skills, ensuring optimal design and cost-effectiveness.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and methodical problem-solving.
  • Clear and confident communicator with the ability to build professional relationships at all levels.
