Job descriptionStep Teachers Manchester – Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant role!Do you want to use your newfound skills to support children with emotional & behavioural needs?Have you already gained 3 months’ worth of experience supporting children in a work, placement or voluntary capacity?If so, then this is a great first STEP in your SEN career!This is a unique vacancy at outstanding special needs school in Manchester that are keen to hire a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant with limited experience (3 months or more) to support their pupils with social & emotional needs, including those with Autism.The basics:
  • Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant at special needs high school in Manchester for children with SEN, including Autism, Social & Emotional needs and Learning Needs.
  • Starting September 2025.
  • Full time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm.
  • Expected to go perm eventually for the right person.
  • £90-110/day DOE - Paid PAYE, we don’t use umbrella companies!
  • Equal pay to perm staff from 13th week onwards.

How you’ll help:
  • Provide 1:1 & group support to KS3 students with Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs (SEMH) as well as pupils with Autism & Learning Needs.
  • You will need to adapt your approach to each individual need, levels and interests.
  • Focus on pupil progress in social, emotional & behavioural areas while also supporting with academic improvement.
  • Use positive reinforcement, preventative strategies, de-escalation measures & behaviour management techniques.
  • Contribute to a safe, fun & inclusive classroom environment.
  • Work with the class teacher, SENCO, SLT, parents and outside professionals such as social workers & educational psychologists.
  • Report on behaviours, incidents and disclosures to the DSL.

What We Need from You:
  • Up to date CV with 10-year work history.
  • Proof of Right to Work & Address in the UK.
  • DBS certificate on the Update Service (or be happy to apply for one).
  • At least 2 professional references covering last 2 years.
  • References MUST evidence at least 3 months experience with children.
  • Overseas Police Check if applicable.
  • A proactive, empathetic, reliable and hard-working approach is a must!
