It has received planning approval and government financing support, and the project has entered its construction phase. Upon completion, SZC will deliver power to six million homes over the next 60 years, playing a vital role in supporting the UK's Net Zero ambitions by 2050.Job Purpose/Overview:
As the Quality Management Lead (QML), you'll oversee the project's quality requirements across all stages of its life cycle-from contract award through to construction and close-out. Your focus will be on ensuring supply chain adherence to contracted quality assurance and quality control standards, making sure everything is delivered right the first time (RFT).You'll be part of the Quality Team, working closely with the Quality Delivery Manager (QDM) and the wider SZC Programme to ensure that quality management systems and processes are consistently applied throughout the project. Your main responsibility will be to act as the Intelligent Customer on behalf of the Quality Delivery Manager, ensuring that quality processes are executed effectively by the supply chain.Principal Accountabilities:
Support the development and implementation of quality management systems for the SZC Programme.Develop and review Project Quality Control Plans (PQCP) for each project and contract.Audit supply chain quality assurance plans (CQAPs), identify needs for supply chain audits, and resolve findings.Coordinate inspection activities during manufacturing or construction, ensuring that they align with contractual quality requirements.Manage non-conformances and corrective actions to ensure continuous improvement.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers and sub-contractors, to ensure the delivery of high-quality project outputs.Monitor and ensure the effective application of key quality contractual arrangements including Quality Release Certificates, Inspection & Test Plans, and Lifetime Quality Records.Lead joint inspections, surveillance, and audits, ensuring compliance with quality standards.Provide expertise on quality-related issues and lead efforts to resolve any arising quality challenges.Ensure that all manufacturing documentation meets required standards and support the handover of completed work to the SZC construction team.Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
Proven experience in project delivery, particularly within the nuclear sector, with a focus on quality management across engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning.Deep understanding of quality assurance best practices and regulatory standards (ISO 9001, ISO 19443, IAEA GSR-2).Strong communication skills with the ability to present material and interact with stakeholders across all levels.Experience in data analysis and reporting, with the ability to make actionable recommendations.Ability to influence decision-making processes and provide constructive feedback.Fluency in English and experience working with international teams.Desirable:
Familiarity with nuclear new build projects and nuclear site license conditions.Experience with pressure and nuclear codes, Welding, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE).Knowledge of Lean 6 Sigma and other improvement methodologies.Proficiency in French (advantageous but not essential).Qualifications & Experience:
HNC/HND or degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline (or equivalent qualification).Proven leadership in a quality assurance/control environment within a safety-critical industry.Experience in supplier audits and quality management systems.
