- Providing expert and timely advice in relation to law and regulation relating primarily to transactional banking and savings products, which include the Private Bank Account, Voyage Account, Currency Access, Business Current Accounts and Credit Card. As well as the Voyage Reserve Account, 3-month Voyage Reserve Account, Fixed Notice and Flexi Saver savings accounts.
- Providing expert legal support to the Bank with product development and launches in the banking and savings space and thereby helping the Bank achieve its ambitious growth targets.
- Understanding and balancing the commercial drivers and risk appetite of the business against laws and regulations.
- Providing legal advice at relevant governance fora.
- Providing ad hoc legal advice on legal matters arising.
- Assisting with the drafting and maintenance of standard house style documentation for the team and external counsel in conjunction with the Legal Team Lead.
- Actively liaising with your colleagues and other stakeholders throughout the Bank where applicable to your role on legal risk matters affecting the Bank's environment.
- Providing legal advice and support in relation to banking and savings fraud related queries.
- Driving efficiencies in performance and a business enablement service in the resolution of legal and regulatory issues.
- Actively liaising with the Legal Team Lead, the Bank's Compliance and Private Client Regulatory and Conduct Risk Teams to ensure that the Bank continues to meet its regulatory duties and responsibilities.
- Keeping abreast of developments and any changes in the nature and extent of the Bank's activities as applicable to your role from time to time.
- You will be expected to gain a good understanding of the business by working closely with your colleagues in IBP Legal, and stakeholders within the business in order to provide proactive legal support.
- UK qualified banking and finance lawyer, c 5+ years' PQE gained in a leading UK law firm. In house experience a plus.
- Experience of the UK payments regulatory landscape with specific focus on Payment Services Regulations 2017, Consumer Rights Act 2015, Consumer Credit Act 1974 (particularly in credit card and overdraft products), CONC, BCOBs and APP Fraud Rules.
- Regulatory Knowledge as applicable to role.
- General banking and payment services experience.
- Commercially minded - understand and take into account wider business considerations in order to see 'the big picture'.
- Ability to give practical, clear and concise commercial advice.
- Ability to receive constructive criticism and feedback and use this to improve skills/practice/behaviours.
- A practical approach and the ability to make clear and concise decisions.
- Excellent working and practical commercial and technical knowledge of all legal documentation applicable to the business areas together with the applicable law and regulation relating to the provision of banking and financial services.
