- Conduct design reviews, hazard assessments, and ensure the delivery of design outputs.
- Coordinate with the Lead Contractor Design Approval Engineer (LCDAE) to secure approved designs.
- Support other work/design packages for the project, focusing on cable interfaces.
- Provide independent assessments for complex technical issues.
- Mentor junior engineers and lead team discussions.
- Ensure seamless design interfaces with 400kV AC substations and 525kV HVDC converter stations.
- Provide regular progress updates to the engineering manager.
- Review and approve ITP/Pre-qualification test/Type Test/QA documents.
- Coordinate with cable contractors to achieve NG Type Registration & SSEN-T equipment approval.
- Attend monthly progress meetings in Europe, both virtually and in person.Skills and Experience Required:- Authorisation as a National Grid Design Assurance Engineer (preferably Lead Design Assurance Engineer) (TP141).
- Extensive experience in 525kV HVDC and 400kV AC cable system design.
- Proven track record in delivering NG and SSEN projects.
- Expertise in pre-qualification testing, type testing, and factory acceptance testing.
- In-depth knowledge of National Grid and SSEN standards, design handbooks, and processes, including but not limited to BP188/SR188, SR106, SR183, TS 2.01, TS 3.05.16, TS 3.05.07, SCT36, and NGET DH30.
- Familiarity with SSEN-T standards, technical approval processes, and relevant regulations such as CDM 2015 and ESQCR.
- Understanding of CIGRE TB 852, Electra 189, IEC 62067, IEC 61914, ENA TS 09-02, ENA TS 12-24, and ENA TS C 55.This role is ideal for a seasoned professional looking to leverage their expertise in a challenging and rewarding environment.
