- You should have good communication skills, be able to work well in a team and be able to take initiative and prioritise workload. The work requires consistent attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- You should already be HCPC state registered as a Biomedical Scientist and have worked in an accredited Chemical Pathology or Molecular Pathology Laboratory. MSc degree in Biomedical Sciences or a related subject or evidence of IBMS Specialist Portfolio is desirable.
- To undertake and supervise a range of analytical techniques, following Standard Operating Procedures as directed by the Section Leader
- To take part in the production, review and amendment of Standard Operating Procedures
- To undertake method and laboratory instrument evaluation/ validation/verification and produce required reports
- To attend appropriate seminars, lectures and training sessions as indicated by personal development plan (PDP), agreed with the manager at personal development review (PDR).
- To ensure that all results are reported within agreed turn-around times
- To take responsibility for the internal quality control and the external quality assessment schemes for designated tests
- To assist in the management of the departmental quality systems as directed by the laboratory manager and quality manager

- Registration with HCPC: training/assessment completed in a Clinical Biochemistry or Molecular Pathology Laboratory
- Evidence of CPD
- MSc in Biomedical Sciences or in Molecular Pathology
- Evidence of Specialist Portfolio
- Evidence of Quality and Management qualifications
- Experience in Clinical Biochemistry or Molecular Pathology
- Experience in Newborn Screening and/or Metabolic Laboratories
- Experience of Quality assurance/management including ISO15189 accreditation standards
- Knowledge of Laboratory Performance Monitoring processes
- Experience in data management and compilation of reports
- Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of Health and safety legislation
- Knowledge of basic management techniques
- Knowledge of Newborn Bloodspot screening
