An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced occupational therapist (OT) to join our dynamic team on Garner Ward, Cornwall's specialist dementia inpatient service, covering maternity leave . We are looking for a senior OT to lead and shape therapies on the ward, bringing new and exciting ideas and improving engagement for those living with dementia and detained under the Mental Health Act. The successful post holder will lead the Rotation Band 5 OT's, Band 5 Physio, and Band 3 activity coordinators, working alongside the nursing team, psychiatrists, psychology and medical teams.On Garner Ward we pride ourselves on being an inclusive and supportive team, working in partnership with all disciplines for the best outcomes for patients and their carers.This job is currently only open to people who already work for the NHS in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly.We are committed to supporting our dedicated staff, so only current employees of the following organisations can apply:

If you do not currently work for one of these NHS organisations, your application will not be considered at this time.Main duties of the jobTo provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions, both individually and in groups, taking into account individual service user needs.To contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of interventions within the context of a multi-disciplinary team.To work as part of the ward management team alongside the Ward Manager and Senior nurses.To participate in cognitive assessments and present at weekly MDT patient review. To be an integral part of the discharge planning process, facilitating home visits or recommending onward care, and to be present at discharge planning meetings to discuss this with patients and carers.To contribute to the development of the Trust Occupational Therapy Service, and to oversee the internal therapy team on Garner ward, including activities coordinators and reminiscence groups.About usWe're an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.   • HCPC registration.
  • Substantial Post registration experience as an OT, predominantly in mental health.
  • Experience of working with patients with complex and challenging needs.
  • Experience of supervising others.
Desirable
  • Fieldwork Educators training
  • Experience of working in an in-patient environment
Knowledge and AbilitiesEssential
  • Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions relevant to clinical area e.g. COPM, MOHO.
  • Ability to establish rapport with difficult to engage service users/carers.
  • Understanding of the importance of meaningful occupation for those with cognitive impairment
  • Highly developed clinical knowledge base in mental health and psychosocial interventions.
  • Effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

  • Presentation and training skill
  • Post Graduate study in psychosocial intervention
