FPGA Firmware Engineer - Defence Communications
Location: Peterborough (3 days per week on-site)
Salary: £65,000-£80,000 + excellent benefits
Clearance: Must be eligible for BPSS & SCJoin a growing engineering team delivering critical communications solutions that keep air travel safe worldwide. This is a fantastic opportunity for an FPGA Firmware Engineer to take ownership of complex firmware projects for FPGA-based DSP systems used in advanced aviation communication products. You'll be part of a team of around 50 engineers working across the full development lifecycle, from design through to testing and validation.What you'll be doing
You'll design, develop, test, and document firmware for FPGA-based DSP applications. Working closely with the Test & Acceptance teams, you'll support integration, test plan development, execution, and reporting. You'll participate in design and code reviews, provide informal guidance to junior engineers, and contribute ideas within a collaborative environment.What you'll bring
  • Strong academic background in a relevant technical subject (e.g., Electronics, Communications, Computing)
  • Experience with VHDL/Verilog and C programming for FPGA firmware development
  • Knowledge of communications systems, modulation techniques, and DSP principles
  • Understanding of firmware/software design methodologies and the full product development lifecycle
  • Familiarity with SoC modular designs and embedded firmware implementation
  • Comfortable working in Windows and/or Linux development environments
