  • Undertake efficient and accurate bookkeeping in respect of client’s accounting records.
  • Prepare client’s VAT returns with a high level of technical understanding and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Prepare client’s management accounts including relating working papers to a high degree of accuracy with a view meeting monthly/quarterly deadlines.
  • Respond to ad hoc client requests in respect of their financial affairs in a timely manner.
  • Build solid and trusting relationships with clients and staff.
Key Activities:
  • Collating client’s accounting records.
  • Posting client’s accounting transactions into accounting software.
  • Reviewing transactions to confirm their VAT treatment.
  • Preparing VAT returns and related workings.
  • Making appropriate accounting adjustments for the purposes of management accounts.
  • Preparing management accounts working papers to evidence accurate financial results.
  • Provide technical support to clients when required.
Decision making:
  • A high level of personal pride in own work, responsibility and initiative would be expected.
  • Where appropriate, this should be balanced with the need to report back to their manager to keep them informed of actions and ensure their agreement.
  • A high degree of autonomy would be expected, whilst still operating within expected firm procedures and processes.
Problem Solving:
  • Technical guidance will be offered by management but there would be an expectation for the management accountant to solve problems and if not, conduct research in order to determine the solution.
Education and Training:
  • Experience in a similar practice based role preferred
Skills, knowledge and competencies:
  • Proficient with Xero accounting software
  • Experience using Sage, Quickbooks, CCH preferred
  • Proven experience preparing monthly/quarterly management accounts and supporting schedules with high level of detail.
  • Advanced VAT knowledge including partial exemption, land & property, imports, foreign transactions etc.
  • Proven bookkeeping experience and good client services skillset.
  • Good awareness of other aspects of OMB taxation (corporation tax, employment and personal taxes)
  • Exceptional level of personal organisation, and a proven ability to manage own time and deadlines
  • Exceptional technical competence and experience
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and logical skills
  • Technically up to date with awareness of relevant legislation
  • Unquestionable integrity, with excellent communication skills and a flexible, adaptable and committed attitude
  • Ability to work well within a highly professional team environment.
  • Robust IT skills
  • Able to cope with pressure
QualificationsEducation/Qualifications:
  • Strong academic history.
  • Studying towards ACCA/ACA/AAT qualification or, alternatively, evidence of suitable work experience.
Key Competencies:
  • Accuracy – to ensure transactions treated correctly.
  • Judgement - be able to assess a situation and reach a suitable conclusion based on the information available or effectively communicate with a manager where unsure.
  • Planning and organisation - needed throughout the process to ensure deadlines are met and client portfolios are managed.
  • Customer focus - develop relationships and gain confidence of client. Ability to deal with client queries and emails on a timely basis, and have flexibility to work on-site at client’s premises if required.
  • Use of IT – be able to work on bookkeeping packages, accounts production software and Excel.
  • Teamwork – working with colleagues in the team.
  • Flexibility – to assist with other ad hoc services that arise from time to time.
  • Innovative - using technology to create efficiencies in processes.
  • Technical knowledge – awareness of FRS102, FRS 102 1a and FRS105
Key Experience/Skills:
  • Prior experience of computerised accounting packages including cloud based software.
  • Ability to work independently but as part of a wider team.
  • Results orientated to meet and exceed client expectations, with a key focus on delivering high quality work that consistently meets internal and/or external client deadlines.
  • Understanding of accounting standards.
