English Teacher - Teacher of English - ASD - SEMH - SurreyThe School:Secondary/post 16 learning centre for young people with ASD/SEMH, based in the heart of the community in Leatherhead. The school has a brand new state of the art conversion with fit-for-purpose facilities that meet the individual needs of the pupils. With that in mind, it's a really exciting time to join. The school has close links with other schools in the community and it forms part of a larger groups of specialist school settings. Due to the age of the students there is a key focus on developing life skills that the students will need once they have completed their education at post 16.Location: Leatherhead, SurreyContract: Full-time, PermanentSalary: MPS/UPS scale depending on your experience and qualificationsHours: 40 hours per weekResponsibilities: English Teacher - Teacher of English - ASD - SEMH - Surrey
  • Ensure that pupils are properly safeguarded and understand how to make a referral to the schools Designated Safeguarding Officer
  • Deliver high quality teaching and learning to children and young people with Asperger's Syndrome, Specific Learning Difficulties and Complex Needs, and who may present with some challenging behaviours.
  • Be responsible for the high quality of teaching and learning of all pupils who are assigned to the post holder, having responsibility for their progress, welfare and outcomes.
  • Supervise the work of any support staff who are assigned to work with the post holder's pupils.
  • To take responsibility for implementing school policies and practice, including those relating to safeguarding and equality of opportunity.
Knowledge and experience: English Teacher - Teacher of English - ASD - SEMH - Surrey
  • Working knowledge of students with complex needs and SEND - understanding and experience of autism and associated co-morbid conditions and how these can affect learning
  • Evidence of sound knowledge of the national curriculum - Curriculum development and implementation for pupils with SEND
  • To have an up to date knowledge and understanding of the professional duties of teachers and the statutory framework within which teachers work
  • Strong knowledge of the most up to date safeguarding matters and guidance.
  • Experience of partnering with students and their families and/or further education providers, focusing on transitions is desirable
