
Specialist Grade Doctor General Adult - Riviera Paignton & Brixham

- Minimum of 12 years medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.

- Experience at senior level working in the field of Psychiatry
- Experience of Home Treatment or equivalent
- Delivering supervision of non-medical prescribers
- MB BS or equivalent
- GMC registration.
- Membership or Affiliateship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
- Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and physical and psychological assessment of patients.
- Writing comprehensive, clear medical notes.
- Ability to manage crises and act independently.
- Ability to manage potentially violent and disturbed patients.
- Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies.
- Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983, to be acquired by Oversea Doctors in 1st 6 months
- Good knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation including the MCA.
- Good knowledge of clinical risk management.
- Good knowledge of evidence based strategies for management of psychiatric disorder
- Up to date CPR training.
- Ability to apply psychological models to practical situations.
- Understanding of NHS organisational arrangements including social care
- Interest in maintaining up to date clinical knowledge base.
- Commitment to involvement in on site programme of clinical governance
- Enthusiasm to contribute to research on site.
- Publications in peer reviewed journals.
- IT skills.
- Knowledge of evidence based practice, clinical audit and involvement of users and carers in service provision
- Ability to communicate with clarity in spoken and written form.
- Flexible approach, keen to accept new challenges.
- Punctuality/good time management.
- Honesty and integrity.
- Well organised.
- Willingness and ability to support other professions in achieving their educational aims
- Commitment to process of CPD

- Registered with Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD

- Access to appropriate personal transport to fulfil the post.
