  • To coordinate all aspects of Route Delivery including staff, customer and OTP issues to ensure successful completion of works within specified routes.
  • Responsible for the day to day management of a team of OTP driver/ operators.
What you'll be doingAs an Operations Manager, your main responsibilities are as follows:
  • Responsible and accountable for safe Route delivery in accordance with customer requirements
  • Responsible for ensuring all plant within the designated route is kept to high standards
  • Act as a liaison for on site customers
  • Ensure that all members of the on track machine crew are fit for duty when booking on
  • Working closely with the Engineering team to ensure all plant is maintained to exceptional standards
  • Lead, mentor and coach all members of your team to ensure that they are achieving and maintaining performance KPI's set out by yourself in line with business and area targets
  • Communicate on a weekly basis with machine crews to ensure all safety, performance and operational issues are briefed and understood
  • Engage employees and promote a positive, safe work environment
  • Manage all HR issues within your area to include attendance and disciplinary issues
  • Working with the planning function to ensure that you are maximising area driver resources in line with customer and budgetary requirements
  • Manage the recruitment and implementation of training plans for new staff
  • Working with the training function to ensure all staff has up to date competence
  • Expert in Accident/incident investigation and management
  • Report writing and follow up
  • Ensure that all staff are compliant and aware of their health and safety responsibilities within the work place
  • Working closely with the Business Unit Manager to implement and develop customer service improvement plans within your area
  • Working with the Planning Team and Business Unit Manager to ensure area financial targets are achieved
  • Ensuring all staff receive monthly business and safety briefs in line with company process
  • Managing workload to an auditable standard
  • Take informed but decisive action to resolve risks and issues that jeopardise our ability to meet our clients requirements
  • Working with the Business Unit Manager to implement robust plans to control and reduce cost where necessary
Who we're looking forThe following qualities and experience are essential:
  • A strong understanding of railway practices
  • Demonstrable management experience within rail or similar industry
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have experience of working closely within a unionised environment
  • Experience with conflict management
  • Be able to work well within a pressurised environment
  • Computer literate
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills
The following qualities and experience are desirable:
  • Have a good awareness of railway health and safety requirements, particularly as they relate to train operations
  • Experience of managing Train Drivers (management of route cards, competence and driver standards)
  • Project management experience
