We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills to provide excellent support to patients and staff across the full range of echocardiographic investigations.The Cardiac Physiology Service at Rotherham is evolving and requires flexible and forward thinking staff. We are seeking an individual with a desire to work in a healthcare environment, possess a professional attitude and be able to work flexibly in a busy team.he successful applicant will have excellent communication and organisational skills. The department has a busy echocardiography service with a focus on training and specialist areas and you would support the delivery of the echocardiography service in a range of clinical settings. You would assist the Echocardiographers by preparing the patient and equipment optimise patient flow and ensure the best use of resources and also support the reception team to ensure best use of appointment availability and performs necessary administrative duties to ensure efficiency.We are committed to providing a high quality service and actively encourage personal professional development and further training within the department to participate in other investigations.We will consider recruiting a suitable candidate as Band 2 to train into the Band 3 role after competencies acquired if necessary.Main duties of the jobYou will work under the direction of the Echocardiography Lead and Echocardiographers, to know what is expected of you and not work outside of your role. You will follow reasonable requests and instructions within your work which may include chaperone of patients, transfer of goods and equipment between departments. Following locally agreed competency based tasks supported by training and education to gain theoretical underpinning knowledge to undertake -
  • To co-ordinate workflow within the echocardiography service which will include liaison with wards, porters, reception team or acting as a chaperone
  • To transport patients to different areas of the hospital where appropriate
  • Basic clinical observations i.e. heart rate, blood pressure, height, weight
  • Performing 12 Lead Electrocardiograms (ECG)
  • To assist in more complex cardiac procedures under the direction of the supervising physiologist (e.g. patient preparation, decontamination of trans-oesophageal probe)
  • To recognise situations or test findings which need bringing to the attention of senior colleagues/ medical staff for clinical interpretation
  • To check the technical quality and calibration of basic equipment and to report any adverse findings to a senior member of staff
  • To work flexibly in accordance with the department needs. This may involve changing working days and/or working towards a 7-day service.
