
Piping and Layout Design Engineer

- Understand piping line lists, commit to design from 2D P&ID with line lists to 3D CAD model piping routing and drawings for plant layout, and produce associated MTO’s and BOMs.
- Prepare piping general arrangements and piping isometrics relevant to the assigned unit or area.
- Evaluate and analyse all client requirements for piping, prepare necessary designs as per company piping specifications for clients noting non-conformances, and recommend appropriate alternatives and a backup plan.
- Perform technical tasks assigned by Lead/Senior engineer on feasibility, conceptual, basic engineering, FEED, detailed design and EPC/ EPCM projects.
- Check of allowable loads on nozzles (pumps, static equipment, etc.) as per WRC-107.
- Dynamic analysis (Modal, Harmonic).
- Verify piping isometrics in the reference P&ID’s.
- Participate in internal and external 3-D models reviews.
- Knowledge of hydraulic design (flow, velocities, pressure drop).
- Mechanical piping design (thickness calculation) according to ASME B31.1 / B31.3 / EN13480, etc.
- Perform pipe support design for the relevant unit or area in coordination to Pipe Stress Engineer, including pipe support specification/standards.
- Prepare piping and bulk material take offs (MTOs) and bill of material (BoM).
- Develop piping specifications (materials classes, pipe schedule, rating of elements, jointing specifications) including insulation and thermal losses according to international standardisation.
- Participate in the development of P&ID’s, package specifications, construction specifications, project schedules, project budgets and construction planning.
- Schedule and participate in all inspection/testing activities related to their respective piping and equipment packages.
- Prepare valve data sheets and piping specialty item data sheets.
- Piping Flexibility analysis according to ASME B31.1/B31.3 / EN 13480.
- Prepare specification for Stress Analysis.
- Prepare piping critical line list.
- Liaises with Mechanical information for all matters concerning loads on equipment.
- Prepares specifications, data-sheets, Material Requirements (MR’s) Technical Bid Tabulation (TBT’s) and review vendor drawings for all tagged support items.
- Review support type and location indicated on the IFC isometric in accordance with approved stress isometrics.
- Liaises with Lead Piping Engineer for the selection applicable standards, codes and specifications and incorporate them in job specifications.
- Preparation of piping classes index and summary.
- Provides input data for piping components to 3D tool database.
- Prepare Material Requirement (MR) and Technical Bid Tabulation (TBT)
- Prepare mechanical data for Line list and supervise all MTO activities. This includes piping insulating / painting and pressure / NDE testing requirements.
- Prepare job specifications for piping fabrication, inspection and testing (where Client specifications are not available).
- Oversee compliance with industry codes and standards and department work instructions, specifications and standards for the assigned project.
- Interface with other departments, clients, vendors, subcontractors and third parties as per Lead Engineer’s instructions.
- Participate in inter-disciplines, project, client and vendor meetings when requested by the Lead Engineer.
- Ensure the technical quality and accuracy of the work produced and the assigned tasks are completed on time.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree level or equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in in piping and lay out engineering design in the Oil & Gas, Refineries, Petrochemical, Chemical and related industries
- Familiar with International Codes and Standards and Engineering Practices used in the industry including ASME B31.3, ASME B36.10, ASME B16.5 and ASME B36. 19, EN13480 EN10220 and EN1127EN – ANSI/ ASME codes
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD, Solidworks or Revit design softwares
- Design of steel pipework as well as plastic pipework and mechanical understanding
- Knowledge of pressure, temperature, flow and level variables, and instrumentation to measure or control these
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Diagrammatic skills and attention to detail
- Additional technical know-how in SOEC, SMR, fuel cells, clean fuel, energy storage systems and/or chemical synthesis (e.g. ammonia, methanol)
- Competent user of CAESAR II software
- Knowledge of Swagelok tubing and fittings.
- Competent user of Material management software and Material/ corrosion study experience
- Knowledge of vessels, pumps and heat exchanger performance
- Working knowledge of compliance, zoning, and building legislation
