With its Outstanding Ofsted rating, the school offers excellent opportunities for joyful and engaging learning experiences.About the role:As an Autism Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students on the autism spectrum, ensuring they feel understood, safe, and encouraged in their educational journey.Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support for students with Autism, assisting them in accessing the curriculum.
- Support small groups of pupils, encouraging participation and engagement in learning activities.
- Adapt learning materials and strategies to meet individual student needs.
- Encourage the development of social and communication skills through structured activities.
- Implement personalised support plans in collaboration with teachers and SENCOs.
- Promote independence and self-confidence in students by offering consistent encouragement.
- Support with emotional regulation strategies, helping students manage anxiety and transitions.
- Work closely with parents, carers, and external professionals to provide holistic support.
- Monitor and record student progress, reporting observations to teachers and SEN staff.
- Contribute to creating a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment.
- CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare, Teaching Assistance, or equivalent qualification (desirable but not mandatory).
- Previous experience working with children or young people with autism, ideally within an SEN environment is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of autism strategies such as TEACCH, PECS, or social stories is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient approach.
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
- Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
