You'll be working with students in Key Stages 3 and 4 who need extra support with their learning, social skills, and emotional development, helping them to stay engaged and reach their potential.The Role of a Learning Support Assistant
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to students with additional learning needs, including social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs
- Assist teachers in adapting lessons and resources to ensure all students can access the curriculum
- Encourage positive attitudes towards learning and help students develop essential life and social skills
- Support with managing behaviour in a calm, consistent and nurturing way
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCo, and pastoral staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment
- Monitor progress and help track individual achievements
- Previous experience supporting young people in a school or similar setting (youth work, mentoring, SEN support)
- A patient, understanding and adaptable approach
- Confidence in building positive relationships with students who may face barriers to learning
- Knowledge of strategies to support SEMH or other additional needs is desirable but not essential
- A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their goals
