CNC Operator

• Work with a range of metals including mild steel, galvanised steel and aluminium
• Setting up the machine, including selecting and installing cutting tools, securing the workpiece, and adjusting machine settings.
• Manual machinists use handwheels and controls to guide cutting tools, ensuring precise dimensions and surface finishes
• Operating the lathe or milling machine to perform various operations such as turning, facing, drilling, boring, and milling.
• Inspecting the finished parts to ensure they meet the required dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish using measuring instruments like calipers and micrometers.
• Performing routine maintenance on the machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor adjustments, according to job descriptions.
• Adhering to safety procedures and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Follow health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment
• Perform basic maintenance on machines to keep them in good working order
• Understand and work to fabrication drawings advantageous

• Have on-the-job experience operating CNC machines, preferably with experience with metal.
• Understanding fundamental machining processes like turning, milling, drilling, and boring.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish symbols.
• Choosing the appropriate cutting tools and setting them up correctly for each operation.
• An attention to detail and excellent time keeping
• Ability to use hand tools for adjustments and repairs
• Proficiency in basic maths for measurements and calculations
• Can work alone or as part of a team
