The SENCO will play a pivotal role in ensuring that students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive the support and provision necessary to achieve their full potential. As a SENCO, you will work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to create individualized learning plans tailored to the specific needs of each student.Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the provision for students with SEND, ensuring that their needs are accurately assessed and met in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
  • Provide guidance and support to teaching staff on best practices for inclusive teaching and differentiation.
  • Maintain accurate records of students with SEND, including progress, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Act as a point of contact for parents, providing regular updates on their child’s progress and offering advice and support.
  • Liaise with external agencies, including educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, and local authorities, to access additional support and resources.
  • Stay abreast of developments in SEND legislation and best practices, ensuring that the school remains compliant and proactive in meeting the needs of all students.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant postgraduate qualification in Special Educational Needs.
  • A DBS on the update service.
  • Previous experience working as a SENCO or in a similar role within a school setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, including the SEND Code of Practice, and best practices for supporting students with a range of SEND requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Compassion, empathy, and a genuine commitment to promoting inclusivity and diversity within the school community.
