- Design Engineers are responsible for taking customer briefs and specifications, translating them into comprehensive system designs that integrate seamlessly with building structures, comply with relevant design standards, and fulfil the fire protection requirements of the facilities.
- As part of the Post order design team, you'll be responsible for providing engineered design solutions for various fire protection systems, including sprinklers and gaseous extinguishing systems. These systems are crucial for ensuring both life safety and property protection in diverse market sectors.
- Working within the Design Centre of Excellence, you'll offer design support for all parts of the Johnson Controls business in the UK, demonstrating a wide-reaching impact within the organization.
- You’ll gain skills in technical drawing production. Utilizing tools such as AutoCAD, Hydraulics Software, and Revit (3D), you'll generate detailed technical drawings that depict fire protection system layouts and include essential details. Additionally, you'll conduct hydraulic calculations to validate system performance.
- On-the-Job Work Experience: You'll spend significant time at our client sites, where you will get the opportunity to put into practice skills learned at college in a real world setting.
- Collaboration with Qualified Engineers: Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll work closely with qualified Johnson Controls Engineers who will serve as mentors, guiding you in developing your design skills. This collaborative environment ensures that you receive the support and guidance needed to succeed in your role.
- You will be enrolled on a Level 6 Building services Design Engineer Degree that you will study alongside your new role. You’ll enjoy the full support of your mentor and our dedicated apprentice training team.

- This is a 5 year degree apprenticeship. Successful apprentices will gain a BSc or BEng building services degree which is accredited by the relevant professional engineering institution.
- You will be enrolled on a level 6 Building services Design Engineer Degree.
- Travel and Accommodation: If you're required to stay away from home for college or work-related purposes, the company will cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and meals. This ensures that you can focus on your education and training without financial burden.
- Upon completion, a number of internal engineering opportunities within the company will be available to you. All of our apprentices immediately move into full time permanent positions.
- Apprenticeship candidates should have minimum three A levels (Grades A*-C) including English, Mathematics and Physical Science, or a completed Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Building Services Design Technician.

- Suitable candidates will have a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the position and provide necessary documentation. Afterward, you will be invited to an assessment center in May, assessment centers typically include a combination of activities such as group problem-solving tasks, individual interviews, and presentations.
- Within 48 hours of the assessment center, candidates will receive a response regarding the outcome of their application. If successful, they can begin the apprenticeship on September 2, 2024.
