Job Description and Person SpecificationJob title: Control Room SupportResponsible to: Facilities & Operations ManagerJob DescriptionPurpose:The Good Shepherd Centre (GSC) supports vulnerable young people from the age of 12 up to 18. We offer a place of safety and nurture and a positive, holistic and strengths-based ethos.The Control Room Team are a key to provision of a safe, welcoming environment for young people to live and learn whilst at the GSC.The Control Room Support will fill a Security/Reception role and is responsible for the security in and around the Centre and the movement of all staff, young people, and visitors within it. The role will involve the use of a computerised Security Management System for surveillance and the monitoring of a computerised Fire System and Building Management System for safety and maintenance.Main DutiesSecurity and movement:1. Issuing of all security and communication equipment.2. Surveillance of perimeter and internal areas of the secure unit.3. Control of all entrances into the secure unit and defined areas within it.4. Co-ordination of movement within the secure unit.Safety/Maintenance/Communication:1. Monitoring of Personal Alarm System, Pager System and Room-Call Alert.2. Monitoring of Fire System and Building Management System.3. Operating telephone switchboard.Specific responsibilities:Security and Movement:1. Co-ordination of resident's movement in/out of the Centre, accepting property and cash from visitors and ensuring the scanning machine is used effectively.2. Co-ordination of professional visits through use of a daily diary.3. Recording of resident's personal belongings and ensuring the safe care of valuables.4. Effective use of a CCTV system to ensure safe movement of young people and staff.5. Responding to the activation of personal alarms and coordinating a response.6. Occasional escorting of contractor's as directed by the Control Room Supervisor.Safety/Maintenance/Communication7. Monitoring of various alarm and paging systems used to ensure the safety of staff and young people within the Centre.8. Monitoring of a computerised Fire Systems and Building Management System.9. Maintenance of all communication equipment as well as staff PPE.10. Operation of telephone switchboard out with normal office hours and weekends11. Maintenance of all Control Room Logs and updating by computer various supporting documents and files.12. Operate in a team of six staff covering three shifts in 24 hours over 7 days, (2 rest days included). Weekends, night shifts and early or late finishing times are part of the shift cycle.13. Assist the Duty Officer through affective communication to ensure the safe day to day running of the Centre.Other Tasks1. To attend training related to the role of Control Room Support as well as mandatory training related to working within a residential secure environment.Person SpecificationEssentialDesirableExperience· Experience of security/fire systems is not essential as training will be given.Professional Qualities
