Job Description:An exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced, growing organisation as a Skilled Machinist within the Transmissions Operations UK become available.If you have an Apprenticeship NVQ level 3 (inclusive for anyone pre 1990 and post 1990) please read on; if you apply make sure you upload your qualifications in order to be considered for the role.Job Scope:As a Skilled Machinist you will have diverse abilities to operate manual and CNC machinery with knowledge and experience of a multitude of machining operations; these will include turning, boring, grinding, milling, shaping, and drilling. You would be joining a large team, working across Transmission component machining facilities.Job Family Frame Manufacturing Level 3WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AS A SKILLED MACHINISTMain activities of the job role include:Machine setting and operatingJig setting and tool buildingMachining dimensional tolerances typically of 0.005mmAchieving surface finish tolerances typically of 0.4 μmUsing measuring equipment and recording results (examples include Dial Test Indicators,vernier calipers, micrometers, trimos height gauge, comparators, snap gauges)Working within operational job card timesFollowing the job priorities list boardPre-kitting for next operations in-lineProactive handling of care for components and applying corrosion preventative measures.Completing daily basic checks (operator's maintenance) of the machinesConveying information to the relevant opposite shift machine operators through the handover processKey accountabilities include:Possession of an operators stamp for traceability confirmation of operations completed inadherence to quality systems procedureWorking in adherence to controlled documentation and process sketchesWorking in adherence to secured and proven machine programsInterpretation of inspection resultsParticipation with scrap & rework investigations to determine root causeWorking in adherence to company health & safety policies and proceduresMain interfaces include:Liaison with inspectors to qualify 'first off' component of batchLiaison with process engineers (technicians) for technical issues relating to the process sketch, operational procedure, capability of the machine to satisfy operational specificationLiaison with supervision for reporting progress for work in-hand or resource requirements suchas tooling and consumable requirementsProviding support to maintenance engineers where requiredSharing skills and experience to guide and mentor apprentices during their course of trainingWHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORAn engineering apprenticeship and NVQ level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualifications as a minimumSkill base biased towards manual machiningFamiliarity with legacy and modern Siemens / Fanuc machinery control operating systems (example of legacy is Siemens Sinumerik System 3)Ability to work self-sufficiently and contribute towards team effortSecurity ClearanceYou must be eligible for full security clearance.
