- Supervise and manage the day-to-day workload of site team activities designated by the project engineer, including tooling, paperwork, site contact, time management, and staffing.
- Report any instances of lateness or sick leave to the project engineer and regularly communicate with team members to address any engineer issues.
- Lead inductions, daily briefings, and toolbox talks for site teams.
- Ensure all relevant permits for work on site are issued and properly managed.
- Act as a liaison between project engineers and planning to ensure site teams are aware of their workload and provide guidance on vehicle allocation, tooling, plant and equipment, and working away from home.
- Provide first-line guidance on site-specific health and safety issues, including any necessary training.
- Lead site-based activities, including client liaising, updating the project engineer on daily progress, and reporting any site issues.
- Take on the role of site leader for allocated projects, with responsibility for all site-based activities in the absence of the project engineer.
- Collaborate with the project manager on design input, which may include site surveys and design meetings with the technical department and/or clients.
- Implement the company’s Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Policy and procedures in all operations and activities, focusing on excellence and best practises.
- Ensure detailed risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work are available, communicated, understood, and implemented by all relevant site engineers, contractors, and visitors.
- Provide instruction, guidance, support, and motivation to team members.
- Conduct regular inspections of the workplace to monitor the integrity of health and safety procedures and promote a culture of behavioural change.
- Report and record any accidents, incidents, or near misses that occur during site activities.
- Ensure all employees (including subcontractors) understand and adhere to the company’s policies, standards, and procedures.
- Take adequate measures to ensure the safety and protection of the environment.
- Set a personal example for team members and maintain a good knowledge of operating systems.
- Act as a deputy for the project engineer when required on site.
- Ensure all personnel carrying out activities on site are competent and properly trained.
- Work with other team members to ensure coverage during holiday periods.
- Adhere to the company’s HR procedures and assist with appraisals as needed.
- Identify areas for improvement on projects and suggest ways to promote best practises across the business.
- Ensure maximum efficiency of manpower, tools/equipment, and vehicles to assist project engineers in achieving the best possible project performance.
- Specific skill-based qualification to level 3 or above, OR, 5 years of field-based experience in a specific skill-based role.
- C&G 2391 test & inspect.
- 18th Edition.
- CSCS Supervisor card.
- Experience with 3-phase systems/equipment.
- Experience supervising people and/or site-based activities.
- An NVQ or equivalent in the core role.
- SMSTS (CITB).
- Additional field-based skill qualifications.
- Health & Safety First Aid (3-day course).
- Confined Space Trained.
- Level 3 Leadership Training (or working towards).
- Experience working with water control assets on rivers and waterways.
