Manual Test Engineer

• Learn and understand the operation processes to support the understanding and improvement of manual testing

• Understand the purpose and goal of the software, and test requirements

• Work in a scrum/agile environment, helping to ensure that all Epics have a well documented user acceptance criteria

• Derive test scenarios

• Independently (and as part of a team) interpret requirements, specifications, user acceptance criteria and translate these into a thorough test plan/schedule and set of test cases followed by execution of test cases

• Open and transparent communication with the customer and the development teams

• Ensure that all custom software developed by development teams is thoroughly tested and defect free before being released into production

• Read technical documentation, user stories, epic information located in the Azure DevOps (ADO) backlog

• Think as a user operating the new system

• Collaborate with other stakeholders and users/colleagues to produce documentation, manual test evidence/outputs, e.g. reporting test defects and track defects through ADO

• Contribute to the test traceability matrix documentation, collation of test metrics and the establishment and adherence to testing guidelines and standards

• Author functional manual test scenarios which align to the acceptance criteria for each epic. Writing of tests covering content may come from a separate source.

• Perform manual testing where required for all aspects of the Operations area and across all elements of the Futures programme within the iteration cycles

• The manual testers may be executing tests they have written, while assurance/validation of the test outcome will be the responsibility of Ops Subject Matter Experts.

• Understanding of the software testing process

• Basic understanding of Agile principles and practices

• Expertise in reading, writing and executing test cases

• Minimum of two years’ experience in manual software testing

• Knowledge and experience of different testing approaches, test types, and full system end-to-end testing

• Knowledge and experience of the ADO system, including the Test Plans area. Manual Test Cases will be held in ADO Test Plan and the test execution status will be recorded there also.

• Broad experience in test case artefacts such as Test Cases and Defects as well as creating and use of dashboards for tracking of testing progress
