Site Mechanical Engineer - Natural Gas Storage (COMAH/PSSR Responsible Person) - CheshireA rare opportunity to work for an innovative organisation in the heart of Cheshire, within a small, high-performing Engineering and Maintenance team. Our client's site is the largest onshore natural gas storage asset in the UK, with the company having expansion ambitions in new business areas.The site has only been commercially operational for the last ten years and is in excellent condition due to continued investment.... This is a clean, tidy, modern facility with nice offices and would suit someone who fancies a change from working on a rundown, dilapidated chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical or power plant.Our client is seeking a Mechanical Engineer, with a strong operational background within the major accident hazard environment; oil, gas, chemicals, power etc.Are you a mechanical engineering all-rounder? Are you fully up to speed with the mechanical regulatory requirements of COMAH and PSSR? Are you used to working within a fast-paced maintenance/engineering team? Do you have a can-do attitude? Do you have Upper Tier COMAH site experience? Are you self-motivated? Do you have a reliability mindset?If the answer is yes, then we have an exciting opportunity for the right person.Skills and Experience:
  • 5 years' experience in the oil and gas, or process industries. Preferably in a site based Mechanical Engineering role, but open to general mechanical experienced Engineers with a willingness to further develop into this role
  • Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Mechanical Engineering - essential
  • High level of attention to detail - essential for this role
  • Responsible, proactive and self-motivated with a 'can-do' attitude; able to work with a high level of autonomy
  • Contract Management experience - with a high level of commercial awareness
  • Project Management experience, ability to plan and deliver CAPEX in a live plant environment
  • Knowledge and practical experience of bolting, lifting, welding, fabrication
  • NEBOSH General Certificate desirable

Key responsibilities:
  • Manage and further develop all aspects of our clients Mechanical Integrity management, ensuring the company is following best practice guidance: HSE, EEMUA, API, ISO etc.
  • Manage mechanical contractors whilst on site; bolting, welding, NDT, PSSR etc.
  • Plan and provide operational support for mechanical maintenance to close out plant defects
  • Further develop and monitor for effectiveness the preventive maintenance routines
  • Generate Scope of Work documents for tender. Develop the contracting strategy, contractor selection and perform regular contractor performance monitoring
  • Plan the mechanical aspects of plant outages
  • Communicate effectively with the Regulator, PSSR Competent Person and Key Stakeholders
  • Lead on site modification (MoC) relating to mechanical systems, acting as the Technical Safety Assessment leader when required - Ensure that modifications satisfy all statutory and best practice requirements (PED, PSR, PSSR etc.)
  • Develop continuous improvement CAPEX requests for planning and delivery
